Sarah M Baldwin (b. 1975, USA)

Sarah Baldwin is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Maine. Her work combines experimental drawing technique and new media applications. Baldwin often works with her husband and partner-in-art Lucky Bistoury under the moniker studio: maudink. She is a founding member of the artist collective Autus and co-creator of INFLUX an experimental art installation in a re-purposed textile mill.

"The value in art for the artist is the process of making something of intrinsic value out of raw materials. This adaptive creative problem-solving ability is the greatest asset I acquired through my art education and work experience." -SMB

territory*decay: ink landscapes
Picture
territory*decay: inked landscapes
territory*decay examines landscape formation through organic material and mark-making process. Using local detritus and timed washes of ink, I create copies of the landscape. My intention is to connect myself and the viewer to the natural pace of each location.

seedb*mbvesselportrait: meditations in ink

seedb*mbvesselportrait : marks stamped in ink
seedb*mbvesselportrait: each drawing is a meditation and a record of my passing thoughts. Each thought is a seed, a bomb, a vessel and a portrait. As thoughts arise I consider the potential for each one to create a reality complete with the experiences of cause and effect.

making*maud: the rapunzel drawings

rapunzel: story portraits in ink
rapunzel explores identity formation through storytelling and myth.  By examining the stories we tell about self and other, I question the existence of a true self or a true other that exists apart from our conceptual mind. When we begin relating to the stories we create as true, we create the reality we experience. Based on Buddhist emptiness teachings.
